FAQS

What is What on Earth! magaZine?

What on Earth! Magazine is a non-fiction print & digital magazine published 10 times a year - that’s monthly with a bumper 2-month issue in July/ August and December/ January. It is written and created in the UK with a branding licence from Britannica Inc., based in Chicago. Every issue is fact-checked by Britannica experts. It was rebranded in July 2023 from Britannica Magazine to Britannica’s What on Earth! Magazine.

What IS THE TARGET age?

The core target age for the magazine is 7-14, although we believe the magazine’s highly visual design means it can be enjoyed by younger readers too. Curious adults will also find it highly accessible and engaging, making it ideal for siblings, parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents alike. What on Earth! Magazine can therefore be enjoyed by the whole family aged 6 - 106!

WHat is our mission?

We believe non-fiction stories are often the BEST stories and the most inspiring. We believe that many children agree. However non-fiction is often relegated to ‘information books’ or ‘reference’ denying them the narrative status they deserve. It is our goal at What on Earth! Magazine to promote non fiction as a key motivator for children to develop a lifelong love of learning through reading.

What is the Content?

We try to cover as many different topics areas as possible within each issue. This is because at the heart of What on Earth! Magazine is a very simple question; What are you interested in? It’s a question children are seldom asked in their formal education - rather they hear adults telling them what they think children need to know! Let’s be honest - no-one has a clear idea about what children will need to learn in the very uncertain future we face, but the one thing we can all agree on is this: all children will thrive from having a love of learning! With this they can adapt to the changing economy and personal life chances in a positive way that allows their natural curiosity to drive a passion for living and learning. At the heart of the What on Earth! Magazine proposition is therefore a message about how to instil a sense of personal well-being..
